Brief Description
The Bride (1985) is a Gothic romance science fiction horror film directed by Franc Roddam. Loosely based on Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel Frankenstein and inspired by the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein, the film focuses on the perspective of the newly created female monster.
Plot:
Baron Charles Frankenstein (played by Sting) successfully creates a flawless, human-looking female companion named Eva (Jennifer Beals) to be the mate for his original monster. However, Eva is physically perfect and instantly revolted by the scarred monster, who flies into a destructive rage that seemingly destroys the laboratory. Believing his first creation is dead, the Baron flees to his castle with Eva and attempts to mold her into an idealized, polite society lady and romantic partner, echoing the themes of Pygmalion. Meanwhile, the monster survives, adopts the name Viktor (Clancy Brown), and befriends a compassionate dwarf named Rinaldo (David Rappaport) with whom he joins a traveling circus in Budapest. As Eva learns independence and attracts the attention of a young captain, Viktor eventually returns to the castle, leading to a fateful and tragic climax.
