Brief Description  Phenomena (1985) is an Italian giallo-horror film produced, co-written, and directed by famed horror master Dario Argento. Set against the beautiful but mist-shrouded landscapes of the Swiss Alps, the film is widely celebrated for its highly unique, bizarre premise that blends a gothic fairy tale atmosphere with intense slasher elements and supernatural themes.

Plot:
The story follows Jennifer Corvino (played by Jennifer Connelly in her very first leading role), an American teenage girl and the daughter of a famous movie star. She is sent away to the exclusive Swiss boarding school, the Richard Wagner Academy for Girls. The region is plagued by a ruthless, mysterious serial killer who has been brutally murdering young women around the school. Jennifer, who struggles with severe sleepwalking (somnambulism), inadvertently wanders out one evening and witnesses one of the gruesome murders. During her terrifying ordeal, she discovers she possesses a rare telepathic, psychic power to communicate and bond with insects.

She is soon befriended by Professor John McGregor (played by Donald Pleasence), a wheelchair-bound Scottish entomologist who helps her understand her unique gifts. Assisted by McGregor and his highly intelligent pet chimpanzee assistant, Inga, Jennifer uses her telepathic connection to swarms of insects to track down the killer's lair and stop the butchery. The movie is a beloved cult classic known for its operatic violence, striking cinematography, and a jarring but memorable heavy metal soundtrack featuring bands like Iron Maiden and Motorhead alongside Goblin.
