Brief Description
Attack of the Beast Creatures (1985)—also known as Hell Island—is a micro-budget, independent regional horror film directed by Mike Stanley and shot on 16mm film in the woods of Connecticut. The movie is a DIY cult classic celebrated by B-movie fans for its clunky dialogue, synth score, and over-the-top puppet gore.
Plot:
Set in the year 1920, the story follows a group of nine travelers who survive a shipwreck in the North Atlantic and manage to row a lifeboat to the shores of a seemingly deserted island. Dressed incongruously in formal dinner attire, the castaways attempt to gather food and find shelter. The tropical paradise quickly turns into a nightmare. First, they discover the island's geography defies logic when a survivor takes a swim in what turns out to be an acid lake, instantly reducing him to a steaming pile of goop. Soon after, they realize they are not alone. The island is the hunting ground for a hostile tribe of small, feral, doll-like monsters known as the Beast Creatures. The remainder of the movie follows the surviving castaways as they bicker and wander through the woods, getting brutally picked off one by one by the stalking horde.
