Brief Description
Dead & Buried (1981) is an American horror film directed by Gary Sherman and written by the creators of Alien, Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Set in the foggy, isolated coastal town of Potter's Bluff, Rhode Island, the story combines elements of small-town mystery, psychological dread, and zombie lore.
Plot:
The film follows Sheriff Dan Gillis (James Farentino) as he investigates a series of bizarre, gruesome murders targeting tourists and newcomers visiting his otherwise idyllic town. The killings are carried out by mobs of seemingly ordinary townspeople who meticulously photograph their victims. The mystery deepens when the brutally murdered victims reappear around town just days later, perfectly healthy and living normal lives as local residents. As Gillis uncovers the truth, his investigation leads him to William Dobbs (Jack Albertson), the town's eccentric, jazz-loving mortician, and points to a horrifying secret that involves reanimation and identity.
