Brief Description
Children of the Corn (1984) is an American supernatural slasher horror film based on Stephen King’s 1977 short story of the same name. Directed by Fritz Kiersch, the movie has become a staple of 1980s horror and stars Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton. The film was released just months before Linda Hamilton’s legendary breakout role in The Terminator, though she has famously described Children of the Corn as her worst movie.
Plot:
The film takes place in the fictitious rural town of Gatlin, Nebraska. Three years prior, a 12-year-old boy preacher named Isaac Chroner (John Franklin) convinced the local children that a demonic deity living in the cornfields—known as "He Who Walks Behind the Rows"—demanded the sacrifice of all adults over the age of 18 to ensure a successful harvest. The children ruthlessly slaughtered all the grown-ups and took over the isolated town. The main story follows a traveling couple, Dr. Burt Stanton (Peter Horton) and his girlfriend Vicky Baxter (Linda Hamilton), who are driving across the Midwest.
Their trip takes a horrifying turn when they accidentally hit a young boy who was trying to escape the cult. Upon closer inspection, Burt realizes the boy's throat was already slit. Looking for help, they wander into Gatlin, only to find it completely deserted of adults and trapped by the murderous cult of children. The couple must fight for survival against Isaac and his violent second-in-command, Malachai (Courtney Gains), to escape the town alive.
