Brief Description  A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) is a seminal supernatural slasher film written and directed by horror master Wes Craven. Widely praised as an inventive, defining milestone in American horror cinema, the film reinvented the slasher genre by blending psychological terrors with supernatural elements. It famously launched a massive multi-media franchise, introduced one of cinema's most iconic villains, and marked the feature film debut of Johnny Depp.

Plot:
The story is set in the fictional Midwestern town of Springwood, Ohio. It follows a group of teenagers—including Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) and her boyfriend Glen Lantz (Johnny Depp)—who find themselves stalked by the same terrifying entity in their sleep. The stalker is Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a hideously scarred, disfigured child murderer who wears a tattered red-and-green striped sweater, a brown fedora, and a custom-made glove with razor-sharp blades for fingers. Krueger targets the teenagers within the realm of their dreams. Crucially, if he kills them in their sleep, they die a gruesome death in the real world.

As her friends are brutally murdered one by one, Nancy investigates the phenomenon. She discovers that she and her friends are paying the price for a dark parental conspiracy. Years earlier, neighborhood parents took justice into their own hands and burned Krueger alive after he escaped conviction on a legal technicality. To survive, Nancy must find a way to stay awake, uncover the truth, and pull the dream demon into the physical world where he is vulnerable.
