Brief Description  The Hunger (1983) is a British-American erotic horror film directed by Tony Scott in his feature film directorial debut. The movie stars Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon. It is a loose adaptation of the 1981 novel of the same name by Whitley Strieber. The film is widely celebrated for its hyper-stylized, slick aesthetic. It heavily features artistic lighting, elaborate slow-motion montages, and billowing curtains, laying the groundwork for Tony Scott's signature visual style.

Plot:
The narrative centers on a stylish, centuries-old Egyptian vampire named Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve), who lives in a sleek Manhattan townhouse with her cellist companion, John (David Bowie). Miriam possesses the ability to grant her human lovers an incredibly long life span and apparent eternal youth. However, this gift comes with a horrific catch: the eternal youth eventually expires. After centuries together, John suddenly begins to age hundreds of years in a matter of hours. Desperate to stop the rapid physical deterioration, he seeks out Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon), a brilliant gerontologist and medical researcher specializing in sleep and premature aging.

When Dr. Roberts fails to recognize his plight in time, John degrades into a permanent state of living death, forcing Miriam to lock him away in the attic alongside her previous, withered former lovers. Finding herself alone, Miriam targets Dr. Roberts to become her next immortal companion, pulling the scientist into a dark, seductive, and dangerous love triangle. Legendary makeup effects artist Dick Smith (known for The Exorcist) handled the groundbreaking, highly realistic aging effects used to transform David Bowie. The film famously opens with a sequence set in a dark nightclub, featuring the English post-punk rock band Bauhaus performing their iconic goth anthem "Bela Lugosi's Dead".
