Brief Description
The Being is a 1983 American science-fiction horror film (originally filmed in 1980 under the title Easter Sunday and premiered in 1981 as Beauty and the Beast). It marks the directorial and screenwriting debut of Jackie Kong, who later directed the cult classic Blood Diner. An emaciated, 6-to-7-foot-tall skinless humanoid with exposed muscle, mismatched eyes, sharp teeth, and a large bulbous head.
Plot:
The film takes place in the small town of Pottsville, Idaho. Radioactive waste and toxic materials dumped near the town cause a young boy named Michael Smith to mutate into a psychotic, intelligent monster. As a string of grisly murders and disappearances plagues the town, victims are found covered in a mysterious green slime. Local detective Mortimer Lutz tries to solve the crimes, but faces resistance from the town's corrupt mayor, who attempts to keep the killings quiet to protect the local potato industry. Lutz teams up with a government scientist, Dr. Garson Jones, to track down and destroy the creature. Possesses superhuman strength, human intelligence, and the ability to liquefy/melt and resolidify. It is ultimately hacked to death with an axe by Detective Lutz, though the film ends on a cliffhanger showing another mutant being born.
