Brief Description
The Alchemist is a 1983 American supernatural horror film directed by low-budget horror maestro Charles Band. The plot follows a man named Aaron McCallum who is cursed with immortal beast-like rage by an evil magician after accidentally killing his own wife in 1871. When the story jumps forward to 1955, a young woman resembling his late wife is drawn to him by psychic visions, triggering a surreal supernatural showdown to break the curse.
Plot:
Though filmed around 1981, it was first released in the United Kingdom in 1983 before finding a wider domestic home video audience via Empire International Pictures in 1985 and 1986. The Curse (1871): The sinister wizard DelGatto tries to steal Aaron's wife, Anna. During the struggle, Aaron accidentally kills her. In retribution, DelGatto curses Aaron to remain young forever, but to live as a murderous, bloodthirsty animal. The Visions (1955): Eighty-four years later, a waitress named Lenora suffers intense psychic visions while driving cross-country. The visions lead her to an old graveyard where she meets Aaron and his elderly daughter, Esther. Aaron immediately recognizes Lenora as the reincarnation of his deceased wife. The Climax: DelGatto returns from the demonic realm, opening a hellish portal filled with creatures and demons. Aaron and his allies battle the dark wizard. DelGatto is ultimately killed, causing the hell gate to shut. With the magician dead, the curse breaks—Aaron rapidly ages into dust, finally finding peace, while Lenora escapes.
