Brief Description
Burial Ground (also known as Le Notti del Terrore or The Nights of Terror) is a 1981 Italian exploitation zombie horror film directed by Andrea Bianchi. The film is celebrated in cult horror circles for its extreme, over-the-top gore, its exceptionally decayed, maggot-infested zombie design, and its bizarre, unsettling character dynamics.
Plot:
The story begins when an archaeology professor accidentally unleashes an ancient Etruscan curse while excavating a crypt near his secluded country mansion. He is immediately devoured by the reanimated dead. Shortly after, three wealthy couples—unaware of the professor's fate—arrive at the estate for a weekend getaway. The vacation quickly turns into a nightmare as hordes of rotting corpses rise from the property's burial grounds. The survivors barricade themselves inside the mansion as the zombies launch a coordinated siege. Unlike traditional slow, mindless zombies, the creatures in Burial Ground display a surprising level of intelligence, utilizing axes, scythes, and large logs to break into the house. One by one, the guests are violently picked off in graphic fashion.
