Brief Description  The Beast Within is a 1982 American supernatural body-horror film directed by Philippe Mora and written by Tom Holland (marking his first feature film script). Loosely based on an Edward Levy novel, the movie has earned a distinctive cult status as a bizarre, Southern Gothic creature-feature, primarily famous for its wild "were-cicada" concept.

Plot:
The story begins in 1964 in rural Nioba, Mississippi. Newlyweds Eli (Ronny Cox) and Caroline (Bibi Besch) find their car trapped in the mud during their honeymoon. While Eli leaves to get help, Caroline is brutally attacked and raped in the woods by a mysterious, monstrous entity. Seventeen years later, their teenage son Michael (Paul Clemens), who was conceived from that horrific night, falls critically ill with a bizarre, unexplainable sickness. Desperate for answers and fearing a genetic condition, the family returns to the small Mississippi town where the attack took place. Upon their arrival, things quickly turn bloody. Michael begins to experience an intense, aggressive, and highly graphic physical transformation. He is possessed by a vengeful drive to hunt down and cannibalize local townspeople, slowly unearthing a dark conspiracy involving the town's elders and the secret origin of his biological father.
