Brief Description
Swamp Thing is a 1982 superhero horror film written and directed by Wes Craven, based on the DC Comics character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. The movie blends sci-fi, horror, and comic book action, telling a classic story of a scientific experiment gone wrong in the American South.
Plot:
The story follows Dr. Alec Holland (played by Ray Wise), a brilliant and altruistic chemist working deep in the Louisiana bayou. He is developing a secret, bio-restorative formula designed to solve world hunger by allowing plants to grow in the harshest, most desolate environments. A government agent, Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau), is sent to protect the research facility. However, a ruthless paramilitary leader and rival scientist, Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan), orchestrates a violent raid on the lab to steal Holland's groundbreaking formula. During the chaos, Holland is accidentally drenched in his own highly volatile serum and catches fire.
In a desperate attempt to put out the flames, he plunges into the murky swamp waters. Instead of dying, the chemicals mutate him into Swamp Thing (played in costume by stuntman Dick Durock)—a massive, super-strong, half-human, half-plant creature. Retaining his human intellect and soul, the tragic monster uses his newfound physical power and connection to nature to protect Alice Cable and wage war against Arcane's henchmen.
