Brief Description
Poltergeist (1982) is a seminal American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg. Released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, it became a massive critical and commercial success, earning status as an absolute classic of the horror genre.
Plot:
The film centers on the Freeling family—Steve, Diane, and their three children, Dana, Robbie, and Carol Anne—who live a peaceful, middle-class life in the planned suburban community of Cuesta Verde, California. Their quiet life is upended when ghosts begin communicating with their five-year-old daughter, Carol Anne, through the static of the family's television set. Initially, the spirits manifest in playful ways, such as moving furniture. However, the entities quickly turn volatile and malevolent. During a violent supernatural storm, Carol Anne is abducted into another dimension through her bedroom closet. Desperate to rescue her, her parents enlist a team of parapsychologists and a spiritual medium. They soon discover that their home was built directly over a relocated cemetery where the developer only moved the headstones, leaving the bodies behind to anger the spirits.
