Brief Description
Nightbeast (1982) is a micro-budget, cult classic science fiction horror film written and directed by independent filmmaker Don Dohler. The movie is essentially a Friday the 13th-style slasher film, but with a bloodthirsty alien occupying the role of the killer. The film was famously produced on a shoestring budget of just $14,000, giving it a charming, homemade quality.
Plot:
The story kicks off when an alien spacecraft collides with a meteor and crash-lands near the small town of Perry Hall, Maryland. Unlike friendly extraterrestrials of the era, the reptilian-looking creature that emerges is a high-tech warrior and killing machine. Armed with a disintegrator ray gun and its bare hands, the alien immediately goes on a violent rampage, slaughtering anyone it encounters. Sheriff Cinder (played by Tom Griffith) and his deputies try to stop the creature, but they quickly realize that regular bullets have no effect on it. Compounding the danger, a corrupt and arrogant mayor refuses to evacuate the town or cancel a local fundraising party because he is worried about his political image. The sheriff, a few local allies, and a team of scientists are left to band together to find a way to destroy the beast before it wipes out the entire community.
