Brief Description
Humongous is a 1982 Canadian slasher film directed by Paul Lynch, and starring Janet Julian, John Wildman, and David Wallace. The story centers on a group of young adults who become stranded on a deserted island, where they are stalked and murdered by a monstrous assailant. The film is well-known in horror circles for its extremely dark, moody cinematography by Brian R.R. Hebb, as well as its unique first-person camera angles used to depict the monster's perspective.
Plot:
The story begins with a grim prologue in 1946, where a young woman named Ida Parsons is brutally assaulted. Decades later, she lives as a complete recluse on the remote, heavily wooded Dog Island, surrounded by a pack of wild dogs. In the early 1980s, a group of teenagers on a weekend yachting trip run into trouble. Following a series of mishaps and an onboard fire, their boat explodes, leaving them shipwrecked and stranded on the island. As the teens explore the area looking for shelter and help, they discover they are not alone. They are systematically hunted by Ida’s seven-foot-tall, hideously deformed, and animalistic son, who has grown up in total isolation and roams the island as a murderous predator.
