Brief Description  Blood Beach (1981) is an American independent B-horror film written and directed by Jeffrey Bloom. It is widely remembered for its unique twist on the creature-feature formula popularized by Jaws—instead of the danger lurking in the water, the terror is hidden beneath the shoreline. The film features an iconic tagline that directly parodies Jaws 2: "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water—you can't get to it."

Plot:
The story is set on the sunny shores of Santa Monica and Venice Beach in California. The peace is shattered when beachgoers, locals, and tourists inexplicably begin to disappear. Rather than drowning, victims are violently sucked downward into the sand by an unseen, subterranean force. After a woman vanishes under the sand, harbor patrol officer Harry Caulder (David Huffman) teams up with his former flame, Mariana (Marianna Hill), whose mother also fell victim to the shoreline. Together with a pair of baffled LAPD detectives, they investigate the bizarre occurrences. They eventually discover that a mutated, subterranean monster—resembling a giant, ravenous Venus flytrap—is living under the beach, using the sand as its hunting ground. Released in theaters on January 28, 1981, the film was a commercial success for its distributor, grossing over $3 million in its opening week. Because the monster remains hidden under the sand for the vast majority of the runtime, the film relies heavily on building a tense, suspenseful atmosphere.
