Brief Description
Troll 2 (1990) is an independent dark fantasy horror-comedy film famously celebrated as one of the worst movies ever made. Directed by Italian filmmaker Claudio Fragasso under the pseudonym Drake Floyd, the movie has achieved legendary cult status for its baffling plot, atrocious acting, and hilarious production mishaps. Despite its name, the film features absolutely no trolls and has no connection to the 1986 film Troll; the title was a marketing ploy used by US distributors to capitalize on the original's minor success.
Plot:
The story follows the Waits family—parents Michael and Diana, teenage daughter Holly, and young son Joshua—as they participate in a home-exchange vacation. They leave their suburban home for the summer to stay in a remote, ugly farming community called Nilbog. Before they depart, Joshua is repeatedly contacted by the ghost of his deceased grandfather, Grandpa Seth. Grandpa Seth warns Joshua that Nilbog is populated by evil, vegetarian goblins. Because they are vegetarians, these goblins cannot eat meat directly; instead, they force or trick humans into consuming poisoned, glowing green food and drink. This potion mutates human victims into an edible, plant-like vegetable mush. Joshua's family completely dismisses his frantic warnings. Meanwhile, Holly's boyfriend, Elliot, follows the family to Nilbog in a recreational vehicle accompanied by his three friends: Brent, Arnold, and Drew. Upon arriving in Nilbog ("Goblin" spelled backward), the Waits family discovers the locals are bizarrely hospitable, offering them a massive feast covered in unnatural green icing and slime.
To stop his family from eating the mutated food, Grandpa Seth freezes time, and Joshua is forced to pee on the dinner table to contaminate the meal. Infuriated by his behavior, his parents send him to bed, completely unaware he just saved their lives. Outside the main house, Elliot's friends are picked off one by one by the goblins and their leader, the flamboyant Goblin Queen, Creedence Leonore Gielgud. In one of the film's most infamous scenes, Arnold stumbles upon a girl being chased by goblins, only to be led to the Queen's forest cabin. Creedence seduces him and tricks him into drinking a magic potion. As he mutates into a tree-man, he delivers the legendary, meme-fied line: "They're eating her... and then they're going to eat me! OH MY GAAAAAAAD!". Joshua continues to use items provided by Grandpa Seth's ghost to fight back—including a lethal bologna sandwich that burns the vegetarian goblins.
Joshua, Elliot, and the remaining Waits family members eventually barricade themselves inside their rented house. Through a bizarre seance, Joshua summons Grandpa Seth in physical form to help them destroy the Goblin Queen. By utilizing the "Stone of Stonehenge" (a magical prop in the movie), Joshua manages to summon the power of goodness, destroying Creedence and the immediate goblin threat, allowing the survivors to escape back home. The movie concludes with the family returning safely to their suburban house. Joshua's mother, Diana, walks into the kitchen to grab a snack from the refrigerator. Joshua walks in a moment later only to discover a group of goblins huddled over the kitchen counter. Diana has already eaten poisoned green food left in their home fridge, and Joshua is left screaming in horror as the goblins rip into his mother's newly transformed green plant body.
