Brief Description  The Dead Next Door (1989) is an ambitious, micro-budget independent zombie horror film written, produced, and directed by J.R. Bookwalter. Shot on Super 8mm film over four years in Akron, Ohio, the movie has attained a massive cult status among horror fans for its highly graphic, DIY practical gore effects.

Plot:
In the near future, a global epidemic caused by a man-made virus turns the human population into flesh-craving undead. To combat the crisis, the government creates an elite black-ops military unit known as the "Zombie Squad" to exterminate the living dead and round them up for scientific research. When the squad travels back to the outbreak's epicenter in Akron, Ohio, to find a potential cure, they face an unexpected threat: a fanatical religious cult led by the unhinged Reverend Jones. The cultists believe the zombies are God's will and go to extreme lengths—including human sacrifice—to protect the undead. When one of the lead soldiers becomes infected, the Zombie Squad must race against time to secure the cure from the cult's compound before the virus takes over.
