Brief Description  The Howling (1981) is a seminal American horror film directed by Joe Dante and written by John Sayles and Terence H. Winkless. The film is legendary for its horrific, visceral transformation sequences designed by Rob Bottin. Evolving past the simple overlapping dissolve edits and furry gloves of classic Hollywood monster movies, The Howling introduced highly animalistic, terrifyingly fluid changes utilizing air bladders under latex

Plot:
The story follows Karen White (Dee Wallace), a prominent Los Angeles television news anchor. After cooperating with the police as bait to capture a notorious serial killer named Eddie Quist (Robert Picardo), Karen survives a near-fatal encounter that leaves her deeply traumatized and suffering from partial amnesia. To help her recover, her psychiatrist, Dr. George Waggner (Patrick Macnee), suggests that Karen and her husband, Bill Neill (Christopher Stone), take a vacation at "The Colony". The Colony is a secluded, New Age psychiatric retreat nestled in the California woods. However, relaxation quickly turns to terror. Karen is unsettled by the bizarre, sexually charged behavior of the local residents and haunted by mysterious howling in the night. Meanwhile, her colleagues back in L.A. investigate Eddie Quist's background and uncover a terrifying reality. Karen eventually discovers that The Colony is actually a secret haven for a pack of werewolves—and Eddie Quist is not only alive but is a member of the pack.
