Brief Description  Mutator (1989)—also known as Time of the Beast or Genetic Destruction—is a low-budget, direct-to-video sci-fi horror B-movie. Directed by John R. Bowey, it combines "monster-on-the-loose" tropes with an environmentalist, anti-corporate subtext. ). Common criticisms focus on its low budget, repetitive padding of characters wandering down moody hallways, and lackluster practical monster effects. However, it is frequently noted by B-movie enthusiasts for the novel experience of seeing character actor Brion James play a sympathetic, bare-chested hero.

Plot:
The story takes place at the Tigen Corporation (sometimes referred to as Taien or Teijin), a shady, futuristic company that conducts unethical genetic experimentation on lab animals. During an experiment gone wrong, scientists inadvertently engineer a bloodthirsty, goo-spilling cat-humanoid mutant creature. The beast breaks free from its confinement, locking down the laboratory facility and brutally hunting down the employees who are trapped inside after hours. Meanwhile, a group of rebellious teenagers—led by the daughter of the company's CEO, who heads an animal liberation group—break into the facility at the worst possible time in an attempt to expose the corporation and free the test animals. The primary line of defense against the creature is David Allen, a former genetic scientist who now works as the facility's night custodian/security guard. Armed with his specialized knowledge of the company's biology and improvised weaponry, he steps up to hunt down and destroy his own creation before it can escape into the outside world.
