Brief Description
Howling V: The Rebirth (1989) is a direct-to-video horror film and the fifth installment in The Howling franchise. Unlike traditional monster movies, this entry shifts the series into a Gothic "whodunit" mystery heavily inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel And Then There Were None. The film intentionally scales back on graphic visual effects and elaborate werewolf transformations (hallmarks of the earlier films) to focus on a slow-burn, suspenseful European atmosphere.
Plot:
The movie opens in Budapest, Hungary in the year 1489, where a noble family is slaughtered inside a castle by a couple who subsequently take their own lives. As the man dies, he discovers that a single baby survived the massacre. Five hundred years later in 1989, a mysterious Count invites a seemingly random group of international strangers to the reopening of the same castle, which has been sealed ever since the tragedy. A severe blizzard traps the guests inside, and they soon learn a terrifying truth: they all share a specific bloodline linked to the original castle owners, and one of them is a werewolf. As the guests are picked off one by one, the survivors must figure out who among them is the beast before it kills everyone.
