Brief Description
Elves is a 1989 American Christmas horror cult-classic directed by Jeffrey Mandel and starring Dan Haggerty, Julie Austin, and Deanna Lund. The film follows a teenager named Kirsten who accidentally awakens a demonic, murderous elf during an "Anti-Christmas" pagan ritual in the woods with her friends. Despite its title implying multiple creatures, the film features only a single, poorly articulated rubber elf puppet.
Plot:
The narrative takes a bizarre and surreal turn when it is revealed that the resurrected elf is actually the centerpiece of a lingering, modern-day Neo-Nazi plot. Adolf Hitler's secret dream was not to achieve a pure-blooded Aryan race, but rather to create a master race of half-human, half-elf hybrids. Kirsten unknowingly plays a pivotal role in this scheme: she is the last remaining pure-blooded Aryan virgin on Earth. In a shocking twist, her grandfather—a former Nazi scientist—is also her biological father, an incestuous lineage deemed necessary to preserve the pure bloodline.
Meanwhile, Mike McGavin (played by Dan Haggerty), an alcoholic, jobless ex-cop, takes up a gig as a department store Santa Claus after the previous store Santa is brutally murdered by the elf. When Kirsten and her friends sneak into the department store after hours, they are ambushed by the Nazi group and the murderous creature. Mike helps Kirsten escape the slaughter, and together they work to uncover the sinister conspiracy. The film builds toward a chaotic final showdown in Kirsten's home and the surrounding woods, where she must use an ancient "elfstone" to destroy the monster once and for all.
