Kevin Dillon, Shawnee Smith, Donovan Leitch, Jeffrey DeMunnThe Blob (1988) is an American science-fiction body horror film directed by Chuck Russell and co-written by Russell and Frank Darabont. Serving as a high-octane, gory remake of the 1958 classic, the film replaces the original's simple outer-space meteorite trope with a cynical 1980s conspiracy narrative where the monster is a runaway government biological weapon.
Plot:
Set in the small fictional town of Arborville, California, the story begins when a military satellite carrying an experimental, acidic, amoeba-like organism crashes near the woods. An elderly local transient stumbles upon the wreckage and gets his hand engulfed by the gelatinous substance. Three local teenagers—rebellious biker Brian Flagg, cheerleader Meg Penny, and football star Paul Taylor—rush the man to the local clinic. The creature rapidly dissolves the patient and turns its appetite toward the townspeople, slithering through the sewer network and growing larger with every life it consumes. As the death toll mounts, a secretive government containment team moves in to harvest the lethal bio-weapon, leaving the surviving teenagers fighting not just a carnivorous slime, but an indifferent military willing to sacrifice the entire town.
