Brief Description
Slime City is a 1988 low-budget American science fiction comedy horror film written and directed by Greg Lamberson. A staple of the late-1980s "melt movie" splatter subgenre, it is a cult classic known for its campy tone and surprisingly robust, stomach-turning practical effects. Shot entirely in New York City on an incredibly modest estimated budget of $100,000 USD.
Plot:
The narrative follows Alex, a naive art student looking for a place to stay in New York City in hopes of convincing his girlfriend, Lori, to spend the night. He rents a cheap room in a rundown apartment building from an seemingly sweet elderly landlady named Lizzie. Before long, Alex is befriended and seduced by his eccentric, bizarre neighbors, Nicole and Roman. They invite him over and serve him a strange combination of "Himalayan yogurt" and an alchemical wine created by Lizzie's deceased father, Zachary. After ingesting the glowing cocktail, Alex begins to drip a thick, oozing yellow slime and physically decompose, mutating into a grotesque creature. He quickly discovers that the only way to reverse the agonizing melting process and return to normal is to commit brutal murders. As the "slime cycle" takes over, Alex learns that he is a pawn for an undead occult group trying to resurrect their deceased leader.
