Brief Description
Scarecrows (1988) is an independent supernatural horror film directed by William Wesley that blends military action with cosmic, zombie-like farm horror. Celebrated by cult horror fans for its thick atmosphere, intense claustrophobia, and gruesome practical effects, the entire movie plays out in near-real-time over the course of one terrifying night.
Plot:
The story follows five heavily armed paramilitary mercenaries who steal $3.5 million from the Camp Pendleton payroll office. To make their escape to Mexico, they hijack a cargo plane and take the pilot, his teenage daughter, and their dog hostage. During the flight, a mercenary named Bert double-crosses the group. He steals the cash and parachutes out into the pitch-black night. The remaining mercenaries force the pilot to land nearby so they can hunt down Bert and recover their stolen loot. They track his trail to a desolate, abandoned farmhouse surrounded by an eerie cornfield. However, the land has a dark, demonic history. The heavily armed criminals quickly realize they are no longer the hunters. They are trapped in a field infested with supernatural, bloodthirsty scarecrows that possess the ability to animate themselves, absorb damage, and mimic the voices of their victims.
