Brief Description  Monkey Shines (1988) is a psychological sci-fi horror thriller written and directed by George A. Romero, centering on a paralyzed athlete who forms a dangerous, telepathic bond with a lab-enhanced service monkey. Producers Peter Grunwald and Charles Evans of Orion Pictures acquired the rights to Stewart's novel in 1985, and began production two years later, with Romero assigned to direct.

Plot:
Athlete and law student Allan Mann is struck by a truck, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. Struggling with depression and a collapsing personal life, he receives a capuchin service monkey named Ella from his scientist friend, Geoffrey. Unknown to Allan, Ella was injected with an experimental serum derived from human brain tissue, which spikes her intelligence. As man and monkey grow close, a psychic link forms; Ella begins sensing Allan's suppressed rage and physically acts out his violent impulses against anyone threatening their bond.
