Brief Description
The Video Dead is a 1987 American cult horror film written and directed by Robert Scott. Released direct-to-video, it blends low-budget supernatural imagination, practical creature-feature effects, and eccentric humor. Unlike typical groaning, slow-moving movie ghouls, the zombies in this film are cheeky, expressive, and cartoonish. They playfully wander into houses to try on human clothes, wigs, and glasses.
Plot:
The story centers around a mysterious, heavy, prehistoric-looking 1980s television set. The TV is accidentally delivered in a crate to an author named Henry Jordan. When he turns it on, it continuously loops an old black-and-white zombie movie called Zombie Blood Nightmare. Even after Henry turns the machine off and physically unplugs it, the TV powers itself back on. It serves as a conduit for an occult portal, allowing the literal "Video Dead" to step out of the screen and murder him. Sometime later, a brother and sister, Jeff and Zoe Blair, move into the house ahead of their parents to unpack. Jeff rediscovers the television set in the basement, unknowingly unleashing a fresh wave of zombie mayhem upon the neighborhood. The siblings are eventually visited by a mysterious Texan paranormal expert named Joshua Daniels. Joshua explains that the TV was meant for him and lays out the bizarre mythological rules required to defeat these monsters.
