Brief Description
The Monster Squad (1987) is an American horror-comedy film directed by Fred Dekker and co-written by Shane Black. The story centers on a group of suburban, horror-obsessed pre-teens who find themselves tasked with saving their hometown from a real-world invasion of classic Universal Monsters led by Count Dracula. Though it was a box office disappointment upon its initial release, the film has since earned a massive following as an iconic 1980s cult classic.
Plot:
Twelve-year-old Sean Crenshaw and his friends run a monster fan club called "The Monster Squad," meeting regularly in a backyard treehouse. Their world turns upside down when a real-life Count Dracula arrives in town. Dracula is searching for a powerful, magical amulet made of concentrated good, which becomes vulnerable to destruction once every century. To help him find it and plunge the world into permanent darkness, Dracula assembles a team of legendary monsters: The Wolfman, The Mummy, The Gillman, and Frankenstein’s Monster. Armed with the diary of legendary monster hunter Abraham Van Helsing and their own knowledge of horror movie tropes, the savvy kids must band together to defeat the monsters and protect the amulet.
