Brief Description  The Marsupials: The Howling III (1987) is an Australian comedy-horror film and the second sequel in The Howling franchise, written and directed by Philippe Mora. Departing significantly from standard werewolf lore, the film explores the idea that werewolves evolved from the extinct Tasmanian wolf (thylacine), resulting in a distinct species of marsupial werewolves where females have pouches to nurse their young.

Plot:
The story follows Jerboa (Imogen Annesley), a young female werewolf who runs away from her backwoods family outback cult to Sydney. She lands a role in a meta horror movie called Shape Shifters Part 8 and falls in love with Donny, a man working in the movie business. Simultaneously, Professor Harry Beckmeyer (Barry Otto), a sociologist/anthropologist, has been investigating historical footage of Indigenous Australian rituals involving wolf-headed creatures. When the presence of these modern "were-marsupials" becomes public knowledge, Beckmeyer captures and studies one in his lab.

However, when the military and government step in with intentions to completely eradicate the species, Beckmeyer—who has grown sympathetic to their plight and fallen in love with Jerboa—sets out to protect them from extermination. The film is widely remembered for its highly surreal, eccentric, and campy tones, featuring bizarre elements like werewolf nuns, a werewolf opera singer, and a graphic birth scene where a tiny werewolf newborn crawls up its mother's belly into her pouch.
