Brief Description  The Gate (1987) is a Canadian-American supernatural horror film directed by Tibor Takács that follows three young kids who accidentally unlock a portal to Hell in their suburban backyard. Celebrated as a cult classic, the movie serves as a perfect "gateway horror" film, blending genuine childhood fears with eerie atmospheric camp and highly imaginative practical special effects.

Plot:
When 12-year-old Glen (Stephen Dorff, in his film debut) and his 15-year-old sister Alexandra are left home alone for the weekend, a tree-removal service digs up an old tree in their yard, leaving behind a mysterious, deep hole. Glen and his heavy-metal-loving best friend, Terry, explore the hole and unearth a strange geode. Through a combination of accidental events—including a drop of Glen's blood left on the ground, reading text that magically appears on a notepad, and playing a heavy metal album backward—the boys unwittingly trigger an ancient incantation. The hole becomes a direct breach to a demonic realm. As night falls and Alexandra throws a house party, the kids find themselves trapped in a localized apocalypse where their home is invaded by a swarm of small, aggressive minions, reanimated corpses, and an enormous, bus-sized ancient demon.
