Brief Description
The Falling (released theatrically in the US in 1987 as Alien Predator and also known as Mutant 2) is a low-budget American-Spanish science fiction horror film written and directed by Deran Sarafian. The film is notoriously known for its distribution shifts. It was released on UK home video in 1986 as The Falling (or Mutant II), hit US theaters in 1987 as Alien Predator to capitalize on big-budget studio hits like Aliens and Predator, and is available on streaming services under its original title, The Falling.
Plot:
The story follows three American teenagers—Damon (Dennis Christopher), Michael (Martin Hewitt), and Samantha (Lynn-Holly Johnson)—who are traveling in an RV on a summer vacation through rural Spain. Their trip takes a terrifying detour when they cross into a remote town named Duarte. Unbeknownst to them, a large piece of the NASA space station Skylab had crashed near the town years prior. The debris brought down a classified, parasitic alien microbe. This extraterrestrial organism has leaked into the local environment, infecting the town's livestock and its citizens.
As the teens spend time in the town, they realize the locals are acting highly erratic, aggressive, and insane. The parasitic microbe slowly takes over its human hosts, causing distinct physical symptoms like intense nosebleeds before completely transforming them into flesh-eating, psychopathic mutants. Stranded and cut off from the outside world, the three friends must team up with a stranded NASA scientist to secure an antidote and fight their way out of the infected town.
