Plot:
The story begins in Los Angeles when a Catholic priest, Father Loomis (Donald Pleasence), uncovers a devastating secret kept for centuries by a forgotten sect called the Brotherhood of Sleep. In the basement of an abandoned monastery, they have guarded a massive, ancient cylinder filled with a swirling, sentient green liquid. Seeking an objective assessment, the priest recruits a quantum physics professor, Dr. Howard Birack (Victor Wong), and a team of eager graduate students to investigate the vessel over a weekend. Using advanced technology to translate ancient texts found nearby, the team uncovers a terrifying truth: the liquid is the physical essence of Satan, an extraterrestrial energy entity and the offspring of an even larger, antimatter "Anti-God".

As the weekend progresses, the entity awakens. The liquid begins spraying out, systematically possessing members of the research team and turning them into zombified hosts. Simultaneously, a growing horde of mind-controlled, homicidal homeless people—led by a menacing drifter played by rock icon Alice Cooper—surrounds the church to trap the survivors inside. The horror peaks as the possessed try to open a gateway using a large mirror, attempting to bring the Anti-God into our dimension. A graduate student, Catherine Danforth (Lisa Blount), makes a ultimate, tragic sacrifice to seal the portal, preventing an immediate apocalypse but leaving the remaining survivors plagued by lingering, ambiguous dread. The core concept treats ancient religious texts as primitive attempts to explain advanced quantum mechanics and mathematics.
