Brief Description
My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1987) is a lighthearted American comedic horror film directed by Jimmy Huston that blends 1980s high school angst with supernatural elements. Retaining a cult following, the PG-rated movie is frequently remembered for its clever subversion of standard horror tropes, distinct LGBTQ+ subtext and metaphors, and a classic '80s soundtrack.
Plot:
High school student Jeremy Capello (Robert Sean Leonard) is an ordinary middle-class teenager living in Houston. While making deliveries for a local supermarket, he is seduced by a mysterious and attractive client named Nora (Cecilia Peck). Following a romantic encounter with her, Jeremy discovers he is transforming into a creature of the night—complete with an aversion to garlic and a missing reflection in the mirror. Instead of turning into a murderous monster, Jeremy tries to live ethically. Guided by an older, benevolent vampire mentor named Modoc (René Auberjonois) and a handbook titled Vampirism: A Guide to an Alternative Lifestyle, he decides to forgo human blood entirely and survives on pig's blood supplied by a cooperative local butcher.
