Brief Description
It's Alive III: Island of the Alive is a 1987 American science fiction horror film written and directed by B-movie auteur Larry Cohen. Serving as the final installment in the cult-classic It's Alive trilogy—following It's Alive (1974) and It Lives Again (1978)—the film transitions the series from localized claustrophobic horror to an island survival adventure blended with biting social satire, dark humor, and bizarre family drama.
Plot:
The story picks up with Stephen Jarvis (Michael Moriarty), a washed-up television actor who finds himself in a high-stakes courtroom battle defending his newborn, genetically mutated killer child. Instead of executing the dangerous infants, a judge orders Jarvis's son and four other mutant babies to be permanently quarantined on a deserted tropical island to live isolated from humanity. Five years later, Jarvis is recruited by a team of scientists and corporate executives to launch an expedition back to the island to check on the creatures.
Upon arrival, they discover that the mutants have rapidly matured into aggressive adults, developed telepathic communication, and possess an advanced survival instinct. The monsters systematically slaughter the expedition team, but Jarvis survives and is eventually forced into an alliance with them. The adult mutants hijack a boat to return to the American mainland to locate Jarvis's estranged ex-wife, Ellen (Karen Black). Riddled with human measles, the dying adult mutants entrust their newly born, third-generation mutant offspring to Jarvis and Ellen, who flee society to raise the grandchild in secret.
