Brief Description
Night of the Zombies is a 1981 low-budget American horror-science fiction film directed and written by Joel M. Reed. Combining elements of espionage thrillers and Nazi exploitation cinema, it follows a CIA agent investigating a missing World War II unit that has been kept alive as flesh-eating zombies by a top-secret nerve gas.
Plot:
The story begins with rumors that a United States Army chemical warfare battalion fought a Nazi SS unit in the Bavarian Alps during World War II, after which both units vanished. Decades later, a team of investigators searching for the missing soldiers' remains hears rumors of zombies in the area. When several investigators turn up dead, the CIA sends Special Agent Nick Monroe (played by adult film star Jamie Gillis) to find what they suspect are deserters. Monroe uncovers a ghoulish plot for world domination. He discovers that a highly toxic, top-secret nerve gas called Gamma 693—originally created to keep wounded soldiers alive until they could reach medical units—has instead kept the flesh-eating World War II soldiers alive for decades as gun-toting, talking zombies.
