Brief Description
The Tomb is a 1986 American supernatural horror film directed by B-movie icon Fred Olen Ray. The story blends themes of tomb raiding, ancient curses, and vampire mythology. Director Fred Olen Ray rushed the film into production under this name after hearing that a rival studio was planning to adapt F. Paul Wilson's 1984 novel The Tomb. He hoped they would pay him for the rights to the title, though that studio ultimately passed on their project.
Plot:
The plot kicks off in Egypt when a grave robber raids an unmarked, hidden tomb belonging to Nefratis, an ancient Egyptian princess and immortal vampire. The thief steals her sacred artifacts and amulets, eventually escaping to America to sell them on the black market to various archaeologists and collectors. Desecrating her final resting place awakens Nefratis, who tracks the stolen artifacts to California. Once in the United States, she begins brutally murdering anyone who has come into possession of her property to reclaim her items and exact her blood-soaked revenge. Michelle Bauer plays the main antagonist, the resurrected vampire princess Nefratis. Sybil Danning, despite being featured prominently on the poster, only appears in the movie's prologue. Cameron Mitchell and John Carradine receive top billing but only appear in limited supporting or single-scene roles.
