Villian(s)  Scientist fused with insect DNA

Actor(s):  Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, John Getz, Joy Boushel

Brief Description  The Fly (1986) is a landmark science fiction body horror film directed and co-written by David Cronenberg. Starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, the movie is a loose, modernized remake of the 1958 film and George Langelaan's 1957 short story. It is widely celebrated for its tragic love story, psychological depth, and Academy Award-winning practical makeup effects.

Plot:
The story follows Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a brilliant but eccentric scientist who invents "telepods"—chambers capable of teleporting matter through space. He begins a romantic relationship with Veronica "Ronnie" Quaife (Geena Davis), a journalist documenting his work. When Seth decides to test the teleportation system on himself, a common housefly slips into the pod unnoticed. The computer system becomes confused and fuses the DNA of the man and the insect at a molecular level.

Unlike the 1950s version where the transformation is instantaneous, Cronenberg’s version treats the fusion like a slow, agonizing disease. Seth experiences a surge of hyper-awareness, boundless energy, and superhuman strength. His behavior grows increasingly aggressive, erratic, and obsessive. Soon, his physical body begins to rot, shedding human parts (like teeth and fingernails) as the insect traits take over. Veronica is forced to watch the man she loves completely lose his humanity as he mutates into a grotesque, giant creature known as "Brundlefly".
