Brief Description
Nomads (1986) is an American supernatural horror film that centers on a French anthropologist who becomes targeted by a group of malevolent, ancient spirits disguised as a modern punk street gang. The movie marks the theatrical directorial debut of John McTiernan—who went on to direct massive hits like Predator and Die Hard—and is adapted from the 1984 novel of the same name by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.
Plot:
The story begins with the violent and frantic death of French anthropologist Jean-Charles Pommier (Pierce Brosnan) in a Los Angeles emergency room. Just before dying, he bites and whispers a secret to the treating physician, Dr. Eileen Flax (Lesley-Anne Down). As a result, Dr. Flax becomes possessed by Pommier’s memories and is forced to relive the last week of his life. Through these flashbacks, she discovers that Pommier had been tracking a bizarre group of leather-clad urban drifters moving around the city in a black van. He realizes too late that these street punks are actually the "Innuat" (drawn from Inuit folklore)—nomadic, demonic spirits who take human form, inhabit scenes of past disasters, and bring madness and destruction to anyone who gets close to them. Dr. Flax must use these unlocked memories to save herself and Pommier's widow before the spirits come for them.
