Brief Description
Night of the Creeps is a 1986 American science fiction horror comedy written and directed by Fred Dekker in his feature directorial debut. The film serves as a highly entertaining, self-aware B-movie homage that blends several cinematic tropes, specifically mixing elements of alien invasions, zombie outbreaks, and 1950s/1980s slasher films. Though it underperformed during its initial theatrical release, it has since achieved a massive cult classic following among horror fans.
Plot:
The story begins in 1959 when an extraterrestrial experiment escapes an alien spaceship and crashes onto Earth. A young college student goes to investigate the crash site and is infected when a slimy, slug-like creature leaps into his mouth. His body is subsequently cryogenically frozen in a university lab. Fast forward to 1986. Two awkward college freshmen, Chris (Jason Lively) and J.C. (Steve Marshall), attempt to pledge a popular fraternity to impress a girl named Cynthia (Jill Whitlow). As an initiation prank, the frat leader orders them to steal a corpse from the university's medical lab. They accidentally breach the cryogenic chamber, thawing out the 1959 specimen. Once thawed, the reanimated body releases a swarm of parasitic alien slugs.
These brain parasites enter new human hosts through the mouth, turning the campus students and faculty into aggressive, flesh-eating zombies. It is up to the teenagers and a cynical, hard-boiled police detective named Ray Cameron (Tom Atkins)—who has his own dark history with the 1959 incident—to team up and fight off the infestation using shotguns, flamethrowers, and iconic one-liners. The film features one of the most memorable one-liners in horror history, delivered perfectly by Tom Atkins: "I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is your dates are here. The bad news is they're dead."
