Brief Description
My Bloody Valentine is a 1981 Canadian slasher film directed by George Mihalka. Set in the small, fictional coal-mining town of Valentine Bluffs, the story revolves around a group of young adults who decide to host a Valentine's Day dance. This decision defies a strict 20-year town ban stemming from a tragic explosion at the Hanniger mine.
Plot:
Two decades prior, supervisors abandoned their posts to attend the annual Valentine's Day dance, leaving five miners trapped underground by a methane explosion. The lone survivor, Harry Warden, managed to stay alive by resorting to cannibalism. After being rescued and institutionalized, Warden escaped exactly one year later. He murdered the negligent supervisors, carved out their hearts, placed them in candy boxes, and left a severe warning: never hold another Valentine's dance again. Believing the legend is safely in the past, the townspeople schedule a new celebration. Soon after, a masked killer dressed in a full miner’s outfit—complete with a gas mask and a blood-stained pickaxe—begins brutally murdering the townsfolk one by one. When the town officials abruptly cancel the official party to keep the deaths under wraps, a frustrated group of young miners decides to relocate their party deep inside the dark, claustrophobic mine shafts. Trapped underground, they must uncover the killer's true identity to survive the night.
