Brief Description  From Beyond is a 1986 science-fiction body horror film directed by Stuart Gordon and loosely based on the 1920 short story of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft. The movie is renowned for its grotesque practical special effects, neon-pink lighting, and themes blending cosmic horror with psychosexual obsession.

Plot:
The story centers on obsessive scientists Dr. Edward Pretorius and his assistant, Crawford Tillinghast. They invent the Resonator, a machine designed to stimulate the human brain's pineal gland to unlock a "sixth sense" and allow humans to perceive higher dimensions. When the machine is activated, it successfully pulls back the veil to a parallel universe. However, the scientists quickly realize a terrifying catch: the gelatinous, predatory creatures living in that dimension can now see and attack them too. Pretorius is seemingly killed and decapitated by one of these interdimensional monsters, and Crawford is committed to an asylum, blamed for his mentor's murder.

Seeking to uncover the truth, a skeptical psychiatrist, Dr. Katherine McMichaels, and a police detective, Bubba Brownlee, release Crawford and take him back to the laboratory to recreate the experiment. When they turn the Resonator back on, they find that Pretorius has not died; instead, he has been absorbed into the alternate dimension and returned as a grotesque, shape-shifting entity determined to drag the others into his new world of mutated pleasure and pain. As the machine continues to run, the intense pineal stimulation causes the characters' own bodies and desires to mutate uncontrollably.
