Brief Description
Orca (also known as Orca: The Killer Whale) is a 1977 thriller/horror film directed by Michael Anderson and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. The movie follows a highly intelligent male orca whale that seeks a relentless, bloody revenge against a fishing boat captain who accidentally killed its pregnant mate and unborn calf.
Plot:
The story centers on Captain Nolan, an Irish fisherman who seeks to capture a live orca to sell it and pay off his ship's mortgage. During a botched capture attempt, Nolan accidentally harpoons and kills a pregnant female orca, causing her to miscarry her unborn calf before his eyes. The grieving male mate witnesses the tragedy and begins a targeted vendetta against Nolan. The whale terrorizes the local Newfoundland fishing village—sinking boats, cutting off the local fish supply, and causing a massive fuel fire—to force the townspeople into turning against Nolan. Pressured by the villagers, Nolan, accompanied by marine biologist Dr. Rachel Bedford and an Indigenous guide named Umilak, sails into the icy Arctic waters for a final, tragic showdown on the whale's own turf.
