Brief Description  King Kong (1976) is an American adventure monster film directed by John Guillermin and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. Serving as a modernized remake of the 1933 classic, it updates the original story's themes by swapping a 1930s filmmaking expedition for a 1970s corporate oil search during the global energy crisis. The film is highly distinct for its practical effects and how it brought its titular monster to life. Rather than utilizing the stop-motion animation of the 1933 original, this production relied on practical engineering and costuming.

Plot:
The story begins with the Petrox Explorer, a research vessel owned by a massive petrochemical corporation, sailing from Surabaya in search of a hidden oil reserve on an uncharted, fog-shrouded island in the Indian Ocean. Jack Prescott (Jeff Bridges), a passionate paleontologist, sneaks aboard the ship as a stowaway, warning the crew about ominous rumors regarding the island. Along the way, the crew rescues Dwan (Jessica Lange), an aspiring actress who is the sole survivor of a nearby yacht shipwreck. Upon arrival, the expedition—led by the greedy corporate executive Fred Wilson (Charles Grodin)—discovers a primitive, isolated native tribe. The natives infiltrate the ship, kidnap Dwan, and offer her as a sacrifice to their god, a colossal ape named Kong.

While holding Dwan captive in the wilderness, Kong encounters her terror but grows surprisingly gentle, developing a protective bond with her. Jack leads a rescue mission, successfully retrieves Dwan, and helps Wilson capture the giant ape. Realizing the island's oil reserves are low quality, Wilson decides to bring Kong back to New York City as a promotional gimmick for the Petrox corporation. During a massive promotional exhibition in Manhattan, Kong is triggered by flashing camera lights, breaks free from his restraints, and goes on a rampage. He recaptures Dwan and climbs the newly constructed World Trade Center towers. Trapped at the summit, Kong is relentlessly attacked by military helicopters and ultimately plunges to his death, landing in the plaza below.
