Brief Description
Carrie is a 1976 American supernatural horror film directed by Brian De Palma from a screenplay written by Lawrence D. Cohen, adapted from Stephen King's 1974 novel Carrie. The film stars Sissy Spacek as Carrie White, a shy teenage girl who is constantly mocked and bullied at her school. She later develops the power of telekinesis and uses it to wreak vengeance on her tormentors.
Plot:
Carrie gets her first period in the school shower. She panics because her mother never taught her about maturing into womanhood. Her classmates mock and throw tampons at her. Gym teacher Miss Collins punishes the bullies and threatens them with prom bans. Sue Snell feels guilty about the locker room bullying. She asks her boyfriend, Tommy, to take Carrie to the prom to give her a nice experience. Meanwhile, the banned Chris and her boyfriend, Billy Nolan, rig a bucket of pig's blood above the stage. Carrie attends in a red dress she made herself. She and Tommy are surprisingly voted prom king and queen. As they stand on stage, Chris dumps the pig's blood over Carrie, and the heavy metal bucket hits Tommy in the head, killing him. Humiliated and enraged, Carrie locks the gym doors using her mind. She uses her telekinetic powers to destroy the building, electrocuting and killing everyone inside. Carrie walks home covered in blood.
Margaret believes Carrie is possessed by the devil and stabs her in the back. Carrie retaliates by sending sharp kitchen utensils flying into her mother, "crucifying" her to a wall. Carrie then destroys the house, dying alongside her mother. Some time later, Sue, who was the sole survivor of that night, goes to lay flowers on the charred remains of Carrie's home. Upon the remains stands a "For Sale" sign, vandalized in black paint with the words: "Carrie White burns in Hell!" Suddenly, Carrie's bloody arm reaches from beneath the rubble and grabs Sue, who, screaming, wakes up in her bed, as her mother tries to comfort her from the nightmare.
