Brief Description
Humanoids from the Deep (released as Monster in Europe and Japan) is a 1980 American science fiction horror film directed by Barbara Peeters and produced by B-movie icon Roger Corman for New World Pictures. The film stars Doug McClure, Ann Turkel, and Vic Morrow. The film is widely recognized as a definitive staple of 1980s exploitation cinema. It became highly controversial upon release due to its graphic depictions of violence and sexual assault.
Plot:
The story takes place in the sleepy Pacific Northwest fishing village of Noyo. A major agricultural corporation called Canco experiments with a genetically engineered growth hormone designed to create giant salmon. When some of the altered salmon escape into the ocean, they are consumed by a prehistoric undersea species. This triggers a rapid mutation, transforming the sea life into a race of savage, amphibious fish-man monsters. Driven by an instinct to preserve their species, the humanoids crawl out of the ocean and terrorize the local community. They begin brutally murdering local fishermen and abducting women to bear their mutant offspring. As the attacks culminate in a massive, chaotic invasion during the town's annual Salmon Festival carnival, a local fisherman (Doug McClure) and a visiting biologist (Ann Turkel) must team up with the townsfolk to fight back and eradicate the creatures.
