Brief Description  Alligator (1980) is an American independent science-fiction natural horror film directed by Lewis Teague and written by John Sayles. Based on the famous urban legend of sewer alligators, the film has attained a significant cult classic status due to its sharp satire, smart dialogue, and effective creature-feature suspense.

Plot:
The story begins when a family flushes a baby pet alligator down a toilet. The young reptile ends up in the Chicago sewer system, where it manages to survive for 12 years. During this time, a corrupt pharmaceutical company named Slade Laboratories has been performing secret experiments on animals using an illegal growth hormone and dumping the mutated carcasses directly into the sewers. By feeding on these infected carcasses, the alligator—named Ramon—undergoes an abnormal genetic mutation. It expands into a ravenous, 36-foot-long, 2,000-pound monster with nearly impenetrable skin and an insatiable appetite. After devouring several sewer workers, the beast breaks out of the subterranean system and begins a terrifying rampage across the city.

To stop the creature, a world-weary homicide detective teams up with a reptile expert. The main characters include: David Madison (played by Robert Forster): A cynical Metropolitan Police detective leading the investigation who struggles with male pattern baldness and a tragic past on the force. Dr. Marisa Kendall (played by Robin Riker): A herpetologist and reptile expert who coincidentally happens to be the girl who originally owned the alligator as a child pet. Chief Clark (played by Michael V. Gazzo): The high-strung police captain managing the public relations disaster. Colonel Brock (played by Henry Silva): An arrogant, eccentric big-game hunter hired to track the alligator down through the city streets.
