Brief Description
The Medusa Touch is a 1978 British supernatural horror thriller film directed by Jack Gold and starring Richard Burton, Lee Remick, and Lino Ventura. The screenplay was written by John Briley, adapted from the 1973 novel of the same name by Peter Van Greenaway.
Plot:
The story centers on John Morlar (Richard Burton), a cynical novelist who is obsessed with the belief that he can will fatal disasters into existence using telekinesis. After Morlar is brutally assaulted and left in a hospital coma, French Detective Brunel (Lino Ventura) takes on the case. Brunel consults Morlar's psychiatrist, Dr. Zonfeld (Lee Remick), to unravel the writer's past. Through a series of dark flashbacks, the detective uncovers a lifetime of tragedies seemingly triggered by Morlar's mind. Shockingly, even while Morlar lies brain-dead on life support, his catastrophic powers continue to influence the outside world. Themes: It shifts from a standard police procedural into a cerebral psychological horror film, tackling themes of existential dread, cosmic injustice, and faith.
