Brief Description
Jaws 2 (1978) is an American thriller film directed by Jeannot Szwarc and the first sequel to Steven Spielberg's landmark 1975 horror blockbuster, Jaws. Set four years after the original events, the story follows Police Chief Martin Brody (played by Roy Scheider) as he discovers that another giant great white shark is terrorizing the waters of the fictional resort town, Amity Island.
Plot:
Summertime returns to Amity Island, and the local economy is recovering with the opening of a new hotel. However, the peace is shattered when beachgoers and scuba divers mysteriously disappear, and a half-eaten killer whale washes ashore. Chief Brody suspects a second great white shark is to blame, but Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) and town officials dismiss his warnings as post-traumatic stress, fearing another panic will destroy tourism. Things take a catastrophic turn when a group of local teenagers—including Brody’s own sons, Mike and Sean—go on a sailing trip and find themselves stranded in the open ocean at the mercy of a rapacious, 30-foot great white shark. Brody must once again take to the water alone to rescue the kids before they are devoured. The film birthed one of the most famous taglines in cinema history: "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...".
