He has been taken in by his wealthy uncle, Richard Thorn, and his aunt, Ann, who raise him alongside his cousin Mark in Chicago. While attending a strict military academy, Damien remains initially unaware of his infernal lineage. However, as he hits puberty, he begins developing uncanny intellectual abilities and mysterious supernatural powers. Guided by an unholy disciple of Satan embedded at his school, Damien is forced to confront his true identity. Upon discovering the "666" mark of the beast on his scalp, he initially reacts with terror and internal conflict before eventually choosing to accept his dark destiny.
