Brief Description
The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977) is an American science fiction horror film directed by Don Taylor. It is the second English-language big-screen adaptation of H.G. Wells' classic 1896 novel. The film stars Burt Lancaster as the titular mad scientist, alongside Michael York, Nigel Davenport, and Barbara Carrera. The famous creature makeup for the "Humanimals" was created by Academy Award-winner John Chambers.
Plot:
he story begins in 1911 when Andrew Braddock (Michael York), a shipmaster, survives a shipwreck and washes ashore on a remote, uncharted tropical island in the Pacific Ocean. He is taken into a fortified compound by Dr. Paul Moreau (Burt Lancaster), a brilliant but disgraced geneticist who lives with his associate Montgomery and a beautiful young woman named Maria (Barbara Carrera). While waiting for a passing ship to return him to civilization, Braddock becomes deeply disturbed by strange, humanoid creatures roaming the jungle and the agonizing animal cries coming from the compound. He soon discovers Moreau's horrific secret: the scientist has been injecting wild animals with a serum containing human genetic material to physically and mentally evolve them into human hybrids known as "Humanimals". To control his creations, Moreau enforces a strict set of laws designed to suppress their primal instincts. When Braddock opposes Moreau's work and falls in love with Maria, the doctor decides to use Braddock as his next subject, injecting him with a serum to reverse the process and turn a human into a beast. This triggers a violent collapse of order on the island as the creatures revolt against their creator.
